Asslam u alaikum Wr Wb,

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol,  no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The basics of Aqeedah to be right is the first and of utmost importance for the Muslims. So much of in today’s world does the Muslim go astray just because either they don’t read for themselves and don’t actually ponder over if it’s right the way that they are following their religion, Or just some accustomed beliefs being practiced for years and years. They might be right for all i say but why confirmation might leave you breathless. You might be going too hard on yourselves whereas it would be too easy in the first place. One of the basic purposes of Quran is to make your faith right, by following only the sahih teachings. Now there would be many times when it’d be too hard to do just that but then again Allah rewards the one who is striving and that is something that cannot be denied.

Here I’m going to discuss a rather common belief that i observe almost every day. One is that they way man and women prayers are in different manner. This is rather a very debatable topic so, I’ve thought to cut them short with few sahih ahadith with the references.

1st Belief Discussion:

The question can be put in the fashion as below:

Is there any difference b/w a woman’s way of prayer & a man’s way ; because some people say that a woman should pray in such a fashion that all curled up. In Indo-Pak this way is adopted but after staying in Jeddah & visiting the holy mosques & Mecca & Medina I have seen women praying (prostrating) in the same manner as men. Please elaborate & I have also read a Hadith in which the Prophet Mohammad. (p.b.u.h) forbade the Muslims not to prostrate in such a manner which resembles the posture of a dog.

I actually wondered over this question a long time and asked some of my teachers the same question and each time I get the answer that the manner that women pray is very much different as she has to guard her modesty by curling up while doing sujood. I read the hadith then, Pray as you see me praying. Sahih Bukhari. Quite confusing for what my teacher told me, then I come across this sahih hadith,

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.785         Narrated by Anas bin Malik

The Prophet (saws) said, “Be straight in the prostrations,  and none of you should put his forearms on the ground (in the prostration) like a dog.”

None of us include both men and women as there is no in equality or gender discrimination that is allowed by Islam.

Note: You can see for yourself. But what i would like to say is that we as Muslims shouldn’t follow the ahadith that are zaeef. Zaeef or old ahadith are those that have a missing person in the chain for hadith to be imperfect being in its true form.

Would you beleive what my teacher said when i showed her this hadith? She said it’s the grammar of Arabic, as this hadith is only for men according to her and many others but no place i could find this hadith referring to only men. I argued and got somewhere with that argument. I hope you do too. 🙂
